A Cartoon Cat horror movie is in development.
According to Deadline, another viral internet project from Trevor Henderson is being turned into a movie after Siren Head sold to Warner Bros. in a massive bidding war that ultimately nabbed Zach Cregger and Brian Duffield co-writing and Duffield directing.
His Cartoon Cat creation has been acquired by Sony’s TriStar Pictures.
Henderson‘s projects have gotten renewed studio interest after the hugely successful film Backrooms by Kane Parsons and Markiplier‘s Iron Lung. Markiplier actually helped as an early booster on Siren Head.
Cartoon Cat is described as an “ancient hollow rot that uses the collective human awareness and memories of old cartoons as a passageway to manifest into our reality — and wreak violent havoc.”
Henderson previously worked with Sony Pictures on Screen Gems horror film Tarot, on which he created concept art. He is an accomplished creature designer and his work has racked up billions of views online.
Backrooms made history during its debut in theaters this past May. The film scored over $81 million in its debut weekend, earning the biggest opening in A24’s history. Parsons is also the youngest filmmaker, at 20 years old, to land a No. 1 at the domestic box office.
Backrooms has since grossed over $375 million worldwide after being produced on a budget of $10 million.
The original Backrooms series is available to watch for free. Get the details on how to watch it now.
