New details are emerging about what happened in Mika Abdalla and Jake Short‘s relationship.
It was just confirmed that the longtime couple has split after five years together, calling off their engagement. The news was confirmed just weeks after Mika‘s show Off Campus premiered, leading fans to speculate about what led to the breakup.

With fans speculating that Mika‘s fame was the cause of the breakup, a source is speaking out to deny this. The breakup reportedly was her choice though.
When did Mika and Jake break up?
A source told DeuxMoi that the split happened “shortly before Off Campus premiered at the beginning of May.”
Sources told the outlet that Jake “was not the one who ended the relationship” and he has “been very saddened by the breakup following the end of the relationship.”
“They were a really great couple it just didn’t work out and they remain on good terms,” a source added.
What’s the official word on the breakup?
A rep for Mika told Us Weekly, “Due to recent interest in Mika’s personal life it would feel remiss to not address that her and Jake are no longer together. They continue to support each other and remain on friendly terms, and kindly ask for privacy and respect.”
How did they meet?
Mika and Jake met while working together on the Hulu original movie Sex Appeal, which they filmed in 2021 and released to the world in early 2022.
Their engagement was confirmed in May 2025 by Jake‘s manager, who shared photos from their engagement party.
“An awesome day yesterday celebrating the next chapter for my longtime client, Jake Short and his fiance Mika Abdalla. From set to real life – watching your journey has been a joy. Here’s to forever,” Brian Medavoy wrote at the time.
Jake shared a 2025 recap post on February 21, 2026 and it included photos with Mika.
Mika also left several comments on the post. “every photo tells a story,” she said in one. Another said, “don’t even know what to say.” A third wrote, “beer banner gets the blood boiling.”
