Tommy Dorfman is putting her airplane seatmate on blast.
The transgender actress uploaded several photos and a short video clip to her Instagram on Friday (May 1) to call out the man who was sitting next to her and seemingly writing rude text messages about her in a group chat.
The first photo shows an apparent screenshot of the man’s phone with the message he wrote reading, “I am in the first aisle of First Class. Guess what is sitting next to me? A f–king transsexual in the midst of going to a man from a woman. Just my luck. I was hoping for a hot babe!!”
Tommy inserted her own caption in the text overlay on the post, writing, “someone get your grandpa.”
The following photos showed a response to the man from someone named “Samantha” in his phone. Tommy praised her as she wrote back, “Just remember many people you love are lgbtq+ and this country sucks for them right now. Be kind!
Another person, possibly named Dave, wrote, “You got one, a brand new one!”
To which Tommy captioned, “also dave (?) kinda tore with this.”
“objectively, i know i’m not ‘passing’ and i’m ‘bricky’ and ‘clocky’ but passing hasn’t been the point for me nor should it be for any trans person,” Tommy wrote in the actual caption on the post. “we are all allowed to evolve in any way that feels true and that evolution can expand and contract. it’s always been about alignment and autonomy for my own comfort, not the comfort of others or the expectations of society.”
She went on to call out the man’s “audacity” at “so blatantly blasting off texts” about her, noting that he also made “deeply misogynistic and revolting comments” about their flight attendant.
In the video clip, he can be seen texting a message about how he finds the stewardess to be “hot as hell.”
Tommy said his actions “only reaffirms the choices [she’s] made for [herself] to feel safe and comfortable in [her] body and spirit.”
“this does come at the cost of safety and comfort in the world, especially in america, and that’s not without consequence internally and externally. i am lucky to have the life i have, the ability to fly freely (for now), and even post s–t like this. and why post, you may wonder? because i can and this man is an alt right vampire AND because samantha deserves her flowers,” she concluded.
Several celebrities left supportive comments on her post, including Amanda Seyfried, who said, “Scared and dumb all of ‘em ‘cept Sam.”
