Tom Holland is already thinking about what comes next for the Spider-Man franchise and how he might usher in a new generation of heroes.
The 29-year-old actor, who first debuted as Peter Parker in 2016’s movie Captain America: Civil War, recently reflected on his future with the beloved Marvel character while speaking with Empire.
After nearly a decade in the role, Tom revealed that he would love to help introduce Spider-Man’s eventual successor, whether that’s Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, or another character entirely.
“For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter. Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what [Robert Downey Jr.] did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset,” Tom shared.
Since joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom has portrayed Spider-Man in several blockbuster films, including Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The actor also revealed that he became more involved in the creative process when returning to the franchise, including participating in story discussions with writers and producers.
Tom explained that the group would “meet once every two weeks to pitch ideas and discuss our ambitions and what we wanted to try and do.”
One of his earliest ideas was called “Spider-Puberty.”
“My pitch when I came to the table with it was called ‘Spider-Puberty’,” he said. “What happens if Peter Parker is losing control and things are changing?”
“‘Spider-Puberty’ was my tagline pitch to the studio, which was immediately shot down. But they liked the kernel of the idea, and it grew into what we have in the movie now.”
The actor will next return for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hits theaters on July 31, 2026. Watch the trailer!
