Shakira is opening up about her split from Gerard Piqué.
The 49-year-old “Dai Dai” superstar got candid in a new cover story with People after starting her life over again after her split from the 39-year-old soccer player, with whom she shares sons Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11.
“When your world collapses, you have to get up and pay the bills and still prepare breakfast and take your kids to school. Life needs to go on,” she explained to the outlet.
“Motherhood makes you strong. The moment I became a mother, I saw life through a different perspective, and my kids are not only the best thing that happened to me, but I’ve learned so much from them every day,” she continued.
As for her current relationship status?
“I’m just thinking of raising my kids. I don’t see that for now. Maybe when they’re older,” she explained.
“Through those challenging moments, I discovered how resilient we all are.”
Shakira and Piqué began dating after meeting while filming the music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” before confirming their split in June 2022 amid his alleged affair.
As far as her 2023 hit “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” with the music producer Bizarrap, a diss track that addressed the alleged affair, Shakira told People: “It was just pure catharsis. I really needed to write about what I was going through and not have any censor.”
“That song was just so good. And I remember us in the studio just dancing to it and jumping and celebrating because we knew the hit that we had in our hands. What I didn’t know is that when we released it, that same day was going to go to No. 1 on Spotify,” Shakira explained.
“It was very therapeutic. I needed it. After that song came out and I wrote that song, I was like, ‘I feel lighter.’ And I feel like a lot of people, a lot of women who have been going through something similar, they were telling me how important that was for them,” she added.
