Rami Malek is getting some of the best reviews of his career for his performances in the new movie The Man I Love, which just premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
The Oscar-winning actor walked the red carpet at the event with co-stars Tom Sturridge and Luther Ford on Wednesday night (May 20) in Cannes, France.
The film’s director and co-writer, Ira Sachs, was also in attendance.

What is The Man I Love about?
The movie is described as a “musical fantasia of a city under duress” and it takes place during the AIDS crisis in the late 1980s.
Set in the vibrant era of late 80s New York, the film follows Jimmy George, a Downtown performance artist in an extraordinary moment between great illness and death when, still, all beauty and love is possible.
Also starring in the movie are Rebecca Hall and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who were not at the premiere.

The movie earned an 8-minute standing ovation
Variety reports that the movie got a standing ovation that lasted eight minutes, during which Rami teared up.
Ira told the audience, “This is a film about what we can bring to each other through art, through love, through pain, through memory. And I hope there are some memories we share from this evening for the festival and our love of cinema”
FYI: Both Rami and Ira are wearing Zegna.

Tom Sturridge was joined by his longtime love Alexa Chung
Tom and Alexa, who have been in a relationship since 2022, were both dressed in Dior at the premiere.
