Lilo & Stitch co-creator Chris Sanders is planning to direct the upcoming live-action sequel.
Sanders also voices the character of Stitch and is stepping up to take over the movies, per Variety, after the Disney film made history last Memorial Day weekend when it opened to $183 million and became the first billion-dollar gross of the year.
Last June, Disney announced that a sequel was in development on June 26, a reference to Stitch’s number being Experiment 626. Sanders also wrote the screenplay for it.
The sequel will come to theaters on May 26, 2028 and Incredibles 3 will also be released in June 16, 2028.
Disney and Pixar also just released a teaser trailer for one of its most anticipated titles, Gatto, which will be released in spring 2027.
The upcoming animated movie was first announced a year ago during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and isn’t set to be released until spring 2027.
In addition to the teaser trailer, it was revealed that Mark Ruffalo and Laurence Fishburne had joined the voice cast of the upcoming movie.
Mark will voice the scrappy black cat Nero, while Laurence is voicing Rocco, the ruthless mob boss cat.
The upcoming animated feature takes place in the “feline-run underbelly of Venice, Italy,” and comes from the team behind Luca – director Enrico Casarosa and producer Andrea Warren. You can watch the Gatto teaser here!
