Flavor Flav is marking the beginning of the inaugural SHE Weekend by lighting the iconic Las Vegas sign in pink!
The Public Enemy rapper and hip-hop legend joined Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom for a special ceremony at the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign on Wednesday morning (July 15) in Las Vegas.
Flav will be hosting more than 100 female Olympians in Vegas this week to celebrate their accomplishments at the winter Olympics.
“I am honored to be able to host some of the best female athletes here in Las Vegas for my Flavor Flav She Weekend,” Flav said in a statement. “I want to thank everybody who has reached out wanting to get involved…this weekend is gonna be action packed! And to get off a historical celebration by lighting the historical Welcome to Las Vegas sign is the best possible way!”
“Every time we light this sign, we send a message about who we are as a community,” said Commissioner Tick Segerblom. “Celebrating SHE Weekend and the momentum behind women’s sports shows the world that Clark County is a place where all athletes can shine.”
In an interview with FOX5 at the event, Flav noted that “a lot of love went into this and a lot of hard work went into this.”
SHE Weekend is the brainchild of Flavor Flav and his manager Rhiannon Rae Ellis, who wanted to properly celebrate female Olympians after they weren’t given their proper recognition after their wins this year.
The weekend, representing “Sports, Hospitality, & Entertainment,” will begin with free events for the public on Thursday, July 16. Public Enemy will perform a free concert on Toshiba Plaza at 7pm and they’ll be joined by Blu DeTiger, Grace Bowers, Mailbox, and more special guests.
A parade will begin at 8pm, starting at 3760 S. Las Vegas Blvd. The parade will travel down the strip until it reaches Bruno Mars Drive and then will continue to Toshiba Plaza.
At 9pm, there will be a celebration for the athletes, who are being presented with keys to the Las Vegas Strip.
The athletes will be in Las Vegas all weekend long with Flav treating them to some incredible experiences, including the Backstreet Boys concert at The Sphere and Ed Sheeran‘s concert at Allegiant Stadium, where the women will get private meet and greets with both music acts.
The weekend is being made possible thanks to support from sponsors. MGM Resorts has offered complimentary rooms, hospitality and entertainment. Delta Airlines, the official airline of TeamUSA, has offered to cover flights. And the event is produced by Joe Lewis Company, the same production company that produces the Grammys and Oscars.
