All American Season 8 premieres tonight (Monday, July 13) at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
Unfortunately for fans of the series, this is also the final season.
Here’s the official synopsis from the network:
The final season follows Jordan, Layla, Coop, Cassius, KJ, Khalil, Amina and Preach as the pursuit of their individual dreams unexpectedly challenges friendships and family that are tentative at best after the events of Season 7. Focusing on the three pillars that have always been at the heart of All American — football, family and friendship — season 8 picks up six months after the football cliffhanger at the end of last season and will span just one week in our favorite Beverly and Crenshaw crew’s life. A week that will have them wondering if everything they’ve been through over the course of their lives has prepared them for this moment. A week that will ultimately reunite old with the new, friend with enemy, and alter the course of each of their futures forever.
All American creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll spoke out about the series ending in a statement.
“How do I condense into just a few words what would be the longest love letter to this show, the fans, the cast, crew, staff, and producers,” she said, via THR.
“My heart is so filled with love and gratitude for everyone who helped bring All American to life and kept it going for its historic run. It is so hard to say goodbye to the thing that you love, but we are so excited we get to do it in the way we envisioned with this final season. Thank you to Brad Schwartz, Channing Dungey, Brett Paul, and Greg Berlanti for supporting our vision. Thank you to the many executives at Warner Bros. Discovery, CW and Berlanti Productions who have been a supportive part of the All American huddle since day one. Thank you to our OG and new generation cast members, our writers, crew and full staff for raising the bar every episode. Thank you to Spencer Paysinger, whose life inspired this epic journey. And thank you to everyone who not only watched the show, but took Spencer James’s mantra of ‘Dream Big. Stay Real’ to heart and were inspired to chase their seemingly impossible dreams. We see you. We salute you. Here’s to leaving it all on the field one last time.”
The All American cast includes Nathaniel Logan McIntyre as KJ, Antonio J. Bell as Khalil, Osy Ikhile as Cassius, Alexis Chikaeze as Amina, Bre-Z as Tamia “Coop” Cooper, Greta Onieogou as Layla Keating, and Michael Evans Behling as Jordan Baker. See more about who is returning.
Why Is All American Ending?
All American is the last remaining scripted series on The CW that debuted when the network was owned by Warner Bros. and CBS. Those companies sold their majority stake to Nexstar in 2022, and in the process of the network’s ongoing rebrand to focus on profit, they’ve moved to unscripted shows, sports, co-productions, and acquired shows, per THR.
“All American is one of the greatest CW shows of all time and we are honored to bring it back for one final season to give fans a chance to say a meaningful goodbye to these inspiring characters and this incredible world,” said Brad Schwartz, president of The CW.
“The series took bold new steps in season seven, adding exciting new characters to the ones we already love, and viewers truly embraced it all. We cannot wait to see the emotion, heart, and magic that Nkechi Okoro Carroll and the entire cast and creative team deliver in giving this story the proper ending it deserves.”
The first two episodes air tonight (Monday, July 13). There are 13 episodes total in Season 8, so the All American series finale will air on Monday, September 28. Watch the final season teaser above.
