
Country artist David Allan Coe has sadly passed away at the age of 86.
He passed on Wednesday (April 29), but a cause of death was not released at this time.
His rep told People in a statement, “David was a Country Music treasure and loved his fans. Most importantly, he was a true outlaw and A great singer, songwriter, and performer.”
He rose from the outlaw country movement to score enduring hits like “You Never Even Called Me by My Name,” “The Ride,” and “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile.” His notable albums include The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy and Once Upon a Rhyme. Beyond performing, he wrote “Take This Job and Shove It,” a major hit for Johnny Paycheck, cementing his legacy as both a hitmaker and influential songwriter.
As for his personal life, he was married several times. Among his spouses were Carolyn Frances Coe and Melody Coe, along with other marriages that were generally short-lived.
He leaves behind his current wife Kimberly Hastings, as well as several children. RIP.
