A new season of America’s Got Talent is about to begin and NBC is giving fans a sneak peek of the auditions by sharing the video of the year’s first Golden Buzzer performance.
14-year-old Lai Noelle earned the Golden Buzzer for her incredible cover of Sienna Spiro‘s breakout song “Die on This Hill.”
Lai has a soft-spoken voice while talking, but her voice opens up into a powerful one when she sings.
In the middle of the performance, Sofia Vergara whispered over to Simon Cowell and asked him if she should press the Golden Buzzer, but he replied, “I wouldn’t.”
Why did Simon say that? Because he wanted to be the one to press it!
“Lai. Shall I tell you, honestly, what I think? Words aren’t necessary,” Simon said before getting up and pressing the buzzer for her.
After Simon did it, Mel B told Sofia that she can never tell him about her plans again!
Sofia said, “I told him that ‘I’m going to give her the golden buzzer’ and he got up and did it. He took her from me!”
Simon told Lai, “Honestly, I shut my eyes for a moment and I was thinking, ‘That’s not you singing.’ You’ve got such a gift and now you take this opportunity and make it amazing. This is why we do this.”
