Will ‘The Hunting Wives’ Get a Season 2? Why Netflix’s Deal for the Show Is Kind of Confusing | Brittany Snow, Malin Akerman, Netflix, Television, The Hunting Wives | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

The Hunting Wives is clearly a hit, but that doesn’t mean a second season is automatically going to happen at Netflix.

Even though the show had its premiere on Netflix, the series wasn’t actually made by the streaming service and isn’t considered to be one of their “original” series. The Netflix branding does not appear ahead of each episode and you might notice on the app that Netflix’s “N” logo is not on the poster.

When the show was originally greenlit back in late 2023, it was set up at Starz with Lionsgate Television as the studio behind the project. The project was filmed in 2024 and had been sitting around waiting for a release since then.

When the two companies split, Lionsgate acquired the show back from Starz so that they could seek a home for the show where there could potentially be a multi-season run, according to Deadline.

The outlet reports that “Netflix’s The Hunting Wives exclusive deal is for one year,” so that means another streamer could obtain the rights after that. International rights were obtained by several other companies.

So, is a second season at Netflix even possible?

Deadline reports that “the cast has options for more seasons” and Netflix has been billing the show’s current season as “season one” instead of a limited series, which is a good sign for a renewal.

It’s very likely that Netflix will swoop in and obtain the rights for the show moving forward, turning it into a Netflix original.

The creator of the show has defended it against criticism online.
