Donald Trump doesn’t feel like he needs to apologize after posting a racist video depicting the Obamas as apes,
On Thursday (February 5), the 79-year-old president posted a video on his Truth Social platform, which featured claims about voter fraud. At the end of the video, former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama appeared with their faces superimposed over images of dancing apes.
The post has since been deleted after it sparked an uproar. However, while speaking to reporters on Friday (February 6), Trump made it clear that he doesn’t think he is at fault.

The president told the press aboard Air Force One that he didn’t feel like an apology was warranted, explaining, “No, I didn’t make a mistake,” according to NBC News.
He alleged that he only watched the first part of the video before approving it to be posted, saying that part “was fine.”
“I looked in the first part and it was really about voter fraud in, and the machines, how crooked it is, how disgusting it is,” he said. “Then I gave it to the people. Generally, they’d look at the whole thing. But I guess somebody didn’t, and they posted.”
Trump said that “of course” he doesn’t approve the video’s racist undertones and that they “took it down as soon as [they] found out.”
However, the White House previously defended the video with a statement from press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
“This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King,” she told PEOPLE. “Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”
Despite her defense, in a follow-up statement, a White House staffer claimed that the video was posted “erroneously” by a staffer.
If you missed it, Trump appears to be walking back a major promise he made to Americans.
