The Mandalorian and Grogu is finally in theaters, and the opening weekend box office numbers are in.
The movie brought in $82 million in its opening weekend, and an estimated $102 million through Monday (May 25), according to Variety.
It’s bringing in an estimated $165 million worldwide, per The Wrap.
While a solid start for a movie in 2026 in general, it marks the lowest opening haul for Star Wars since Disney bought the franchise in 2012.
Prior to this film, 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story opened to $84 million over the weekend and $103 million through the Memorial Day holiday, not adjusted for inflation. 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker earned $1 billion globally.
The Mandalorian and Grogu cost an estimated $165 million to make, per reports. It currently has a 62% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 89% audience score.
Here’s the synopsis for the film: “The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.”
Jon Favreau directed the film, which sees Pedro reprising his role from the fan favorite Disney+ series. Grogu is one of the most popular and recognizable faces in modern pop culture, but “Baby Yoda” is actually not the character’s real name.
With The Mandalorian and Grogu topping the box office this weekend, you might be wondering where the movie falls on the official Star Wars timeline of all the movies and TV shows. See the full timeline.
