Horror movies are box office staples, and there’s one trope in horror that has lasted for decades: the final girl.

The Final Girl is a female protagonist who is usually the sole survivor of the movie’s monster or main antagonist, or at least one of the last ones alive. She also often has a confrontation with the killer, and ultimately survives.

Over the years, we’ve seen so many incredible Final Girls that have lived on through film franchises and showed up in sequels.

A recent Ranker poll with nearly 40,000 votes and counting has determined the greatest final girls in horror movie history.
