Sydney Sweeney‘s Americana still has a chance of making a profit, despite the disappointing opening weekend.
It was previously reported that Sydney‘s latest movie has been “all-out bombing” at the box office. Bringing in less than $500,000 for its first weekend in theaters, the movie has been widely considered a box office failure this far.

According to the publication, Lionsgate’s business model involves releasing large numbers of smaller movies in addition to a small handful of big titles. The studio relies on streaming deals and premium video purchases and rentals to make money on the smaller movies that don’t make such a large splash at the box office.
IndieWire reports that Lionsgate is expecting the movie to bring in a total of approximately $1.5 million before it leaves theaters. After that, the movie will be available to purchase or rent on-demand and will be licensed to a streaming service.
Although the box office numbers show that there aren’t a lot of people interested in seeing Sydney on the silver screen, they’re counting on the buzz around the movie at least sparking curiosity in viewers that will watch it at home.
IndieWire admits that while Americana won’t be a hit even after the digital release, it will likely bring in a profit for the studio.
Plus, the studio will be working with Sydney again later in 2025 for The Housemaid, which is expected to be a bigger success upon release. As IndieWire points out, a good relationship with the actress could lead to more partnerships in the future on bigger movies.
If you missed it, Sydney was recently spotted making a cameo in this upcoming movie!
