The highly anticipated Nintendo sequel brought in $372.5 million from 80 markets so far, the biggest opening since James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash over Christmas last year.
It’s the biggest opening of 2026 so far, per THR.
The movie brought in about $190.1 domestically across the five-day Easter weekend, including a three-day weekend gross of $130.9 million, one of the best showings of all time for the holiday, not adjusted for inflation, per the outlet.
It’s based on the Super Mario Bros., and follows iconic characters Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad as they travel to outer space to combat Bowser Jr.
Galaxy is now 2026′s biggest three-day opening of the year so far, the biggest global debut of 2026 to date for a Hollywood movie, and ranks among the biggest worldwide openings ever for an animated film.
The movie is also the third top-grossing weekend for a video game adaptation behind A Minecraft Movie and Super Mario, and the fourth-biggest among Hollywood titles, following Zootopia 2, Moana 2 and Super Mario, THR reports.
In 2023, the first movie enjoyed a five-day domestic debut of $204 million, including a three-day weekend haul of $147 million.
The powerhouse performance at the box office comes despite largely negative reviews from critics.
