An American man has been arrested on nearly 500 criminal charges after police uncovered a chilling trail of grave and mausoleum burglaries across Pennsylvania.
Jonathan Gerlach, 34, was caught on January 6 at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Yeadon, allegedly leaving with a burlap bag, crowbar, and stolen remains. Authorities say Gerlach later confessed to stealing about 30 sets of human remains.
A search of his home and storage unit revealed over 100 full or partial human skeletal remains, prompting prosecutors to describe the scene as “a horror movie come to life.”
Gerlach now faces 496 charges, including abuse of corpse, burglary, theft, and desecration of graves and historical burial sites.
