Jenny Han is providing an update on the status of the The Summer I Turned Pretty movie!
The author of the books and co-showrunner of the Prime Video TV series adaptation shared how far along the upcoming finale movie is at an event on Tuesday (December 2).

“[I] just wrote it,” she shared at The Wrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit. “We have not filmed anything yet. I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas, but unfortunately, not happening, not possible.”
She added that while filming on the third and final season wrapped last year, they were still in post up until June 2025, so there wasn’t much time to work on the movie, which was announced in September.
“The show came out in July,” Jenny said. “So it was really up to the last minute on the show, so that we wouldn’t have had time to film the whole movie.”
Jenny will also be directing the movie, and she said she’s “really excited to do the movie as well,” after directing in season three, “just because … it’s a privilege … to be the one to tell the story.”
While there is currently no start date, she is currently having fun “thinking and planning” for it.
In addition to the Summer I Turned Pretty movie, Jenny has “a couple of other movies” and “a couple of shows” she’s also working on!
