Francis Ford Coppola is reportedly resting in the hospital after a medical procedure!
The 86-year-old writer and director of classic films like The Godfather was reported to have been hospitalized in Italy on Tuesday (August 5). Now, a source close to the director is sharing an update on his health.
The source told PEOPLE that the famed filmmaker is “well” and that the hospitalization came after a scheduled medical procedure.

“Mr. Coppola went in for a scheduled update procedure with acclaimed Dr. Andrea Natale, his doctor of over 30 years, and is resting nicely,” a source close to the director told PEOPLE. “All is well and he appreciates everyone’s concern.”
It’s being reported that the procedure was heart surgery and that he was experiencing a “mild cardiac arrhythmia” prior to the procedure.
Francis has been busy this summer promoting his 2024 film Megalopolis, starring Adam Driver.
Earlier this summer, Francis was in Calabria, reportedly scouting locations for an upcoming film. He kept the details on the project under wraps but said that it won’t be related to his iconic Godfather films, saying, “Calabria is a region very famous for its mafia, but that doesn’t interest me. My film instead will focus solely on the beautiful things about this region.”
