Emma Stone is providing insight into her decision to keep her shaved head a secret.
The two-time Oscar winner shaved her head for her role in the newest Yorgos Lanthimos movie Bugonia, in which she plays a pharmaceutical CEO who gets kidnapped by conspiracy-obsessed men believing her to be an alien.
During an interview with People, Emma shared that she wanted to preserve an element of “surprise or an interesting moment,” even though she didn’t enjoy wearing beanies for months to keep her bald head hidden.

Looking back on Poor Things, Emma recalls how surprised people were by Bella Baxter’s long black hair.
“Because one of the great things that happened with Poor Things was nobody had seen pictures of Bella’s look, that really long black hair. It was fun when the trailer came out for that, and it was like, ‘Whoa.’ It’s nice when it’s revealed later,” she said.
There weren’t any “pictures or candids” from the Bugonia set, so she wanted to see if she could maintain the secrecy for a while.
The La La Land star says shaving her head wound up being “one of the greatest experiences” of her life.
“Very freeing, and it’s just hair. I thought it would be longer by now, but it’s just hair!” she added.
