Alyson Stoner is opening up about how seriously they took auditioning for The Hunger Games!
An excerpt from the 31-year-old actor and dancer’s upcoming memoir, Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything, was recently shared with Vanity Fair. In the excerpt, Alyson opened up about the serious work they put in to prepare for their Hunger Games audition.
According to the excerpt, Alyson auditioned for the role of Katniss Everdeen, the lead role of the dystopian franchise that eventually went to Jennifer Lawrence.

“I convinced a world-renowned medical weight loss camp to approve me — while I was underweight and only 17 years old — to join a program for two weeks of seven hours of daily exercise on a calorie deficit,” Alyson wrote in their memoir. “I didn’t recognize the irrational exceptions that doctors (and society) made for Hollywood, because it was all I knew.”
According to Alyson, they told the doctors that their goal was to build muscle, not to lose any weight. In the excerpt, the former Disney Channel star calls out the medical professionals for allowing them to join the program instead of turning them away.
“Doctors and trainers should’ve never permitted an underweight minor to do seven hours of 14-mile hikes, heavy lifting, and high-intensity cardio. But all I had to say was that I was training for an acting role. They assessed me as mentally stable and opened the door,” Alyson‘s memoir reads.
The excerpt goes on to recall Alyson finding out they would not be moving forward after their first audition shortly after they gained weight back. Alyson states that they were disappointed and struggled with a mental health spiral after the “progress” was lost.
