Eva Mendes is celebrating Ryan Gosling‘s Marvel casting with a full-circle nod to their relationship’s early days.
After Ryan was announced as the MCU’s new Ghost Rider, Eva reposted a fan edit to Instagram built around his opening scene in The Place Beyond the Pines, the 2012 drama where the longtime couple met.
The sequence features Ryan as motorcycle stuntman Luke Glanton, with the edit arguing that the role already showed why he would be a natural fit for the supernatural Marvel character.
The text on the video said the scene in question made them realize why Ryan would be the perfect fit for Ghost Rider.
Eva made the connection even better by adding, “Love, Roxy,” in her caption, a nod to her character Roxanne “Roxy” Simpson from the 2007 Ghost Rider movie starring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze.
On Monday (July 27), Eva followed up with another Instagram post showing some stills as her as Roxy in the 2007 film and the caption, “Feels appropriate to kick it to Roxy today.”
Marvel announced Ryan‘s casting during its Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. Shawn Levy will direct the movie, which is expected to arrive in theaters in 2028. Ryan and Shawn previously worked together on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter.
The Place Beyond the Pines also starred Eva as Romina, Luke’s former partner. Eva and Ryan began dating after working together on the movie and now share two daughters. Earlier this year, Eva also offered a rare look at how the couple keeps up with date nights.
