President Curtis is premiering tonight (Sunday, July 26), and critics are raving about the new entry into the Rick & Morty universe.
The Keith David-led series debuts at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on Adult Swim, following the Rick & Morty season finale. Episodes are available to stream the next day on HBO Max.
What Is President Curtis About?
Set in the Rick and Morty universe, President Curtis stars David alongside Stephanie Beatriz (Twisted Metal) and Jim Rash (Community). The series follows President Andre Curtis (David) and his eccentric staff as they tackle the kinds of crises that Rick Sanchez could never be bothered with – from interdimensional diplomacy to paranormal investigations and unexplained phenomena.

Screen Rant gives it a 7 out of 10, writing: “[President Curtis] feels chaotic, messy, and experimental, but that all adds to the charm and tone that makes it a part of the world of Rick and Morty.”
IGN gave it 6 out of 10, writing: “It never builds on its basic formula or finds ways to carve its own niche in the franchise. There’s fun to be had here, but also a lot of untapped potential.”
AV Club gives it a B+, writing: “Just a man with a powerful title, surrounded by characters who are just trying to be people in spite of their extraordinary abilities and abnormal jobs. It’s a big part of what makes President Curtis ridiculous, relatable, and eminently watchable.”
io9 adds: “You can’t go wrong with Keith David in any context, but he brings a gravitas here that makes Curtis’ presidential proclamations entirely believable, no matter how ridiculous they may be.”
Screen Anarchy gave it 4 out of 5, writing: “Gloriously silly and profanely stupid, President Curtis features mile-a-minute jokes and a plethora of LOL visual gags, which makes perfect sense, since it’s a spin-off from Rick & Morty. … A mirth-making machine.”
Variety says: “The main cast and the domestic focus may be new compared to Rick and Morty, but the general feeling is the same. This means President Curtis delivers more on dependability than strict innovation, though that may be what both viewers and a parent corporation looking to beef up its IP reserves on the cusp of a potential merger want.”
THR says: “After the rough start, President Curtis settles into a decent groove in which the plot-based things that work are a repeatable foundation and the character-based things that haven’t found a way to gel could easily improve with more episodes.”
Polygon says: “When Curtis is on screen, you really don’t need Rick and Morty. He is a great character all on his own. And while I doubt this show can go for ‘100 years’ like Rick and Morty, I’m in for at least four more years of President Curtis.”
JoBlo gave it an 8 out of 10, writing: “As someone who walked into President Curtis not being a Rick and Morty fan, I’m thrilled to say I couldn’t get enough of this new show.”
