Lindsey Vonn is sharing an update on her recovery after her horrific injury at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
While competing at the games in Milan, Italy in February, the 41-year-old athlete suffered a horrific crash that caused a complex tibia fracture, for which she had to undergo eight surgeries and nearly lost her leg.
As she walked the red carpet at the 2026 ESPYs on Wednesday night (July 15) at David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City, Lindsey shared an update on her recovery journey.

“It’s been a very slow process,” Lindsey told People. “It’s been five months since I’ve been able to actually go to the gym in a somewhat meaningful way. And walking is actually still really hard for me. My ankle is still broken.”
She went on to say that she’s now grateful to be standing once again.
“I was in a wheelchair for so long, I was on crutches for so long,” Lindsey said. “It was honestly almost three and a half months that I was unable to walk unassisted. I got very emotional when I was able to walk on my own.”

While appearing on TODAY in April, two months after her injury, Lindsey addressed the possibility of competitively skiing again.
