Sara Bareilles is supporting her longtime friend Jennifer Nettles!
Jennifer celebrated the official opening night of her world-premiere musical, Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo, on Friday (July 10) at the Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York City.
Not only is Jennifer starring as the title role in the new show, she also wrote the musical!
At the opening night performance, Jennifer was joined by her partner Adam Zotovich, who produced the show. They posed for a photo with Sara and her husband, actor Joe Tippett.
Sara wrote a rave review of the show on Instagram.
“I sat in the audience on opening night of @giuliamusical and my sweet sister @jennifernettles took the stage and I immediately remembered sitting on a lawn with her at an amphitheater 10+ years ago somewhere talking about our love of musical theater. We were on tour, doing our day jobs, but she said- ‘we should write a musical.’ It was not even a thought that had ever entered my universe. It was impossible. Or was it? She lit a flame bright enough for the both of us, cause she had more faith in me than I did. Jennifer is the reason I felt brave enough to write for the theater- and that decision changed everything about my life. I love her for so many reasons but not the least of them is because she is audacious and wise and tender and fierce in equal measure. And so is this show. I’m so grateful I got to see this offering of not just her glorious heart but her wild talent and all its many colors shapes and sizes. After the show all I could say was ‘ARE YOU F–KING KIDDING ME?!?! YOU MADE THAT!!!!!!’ I am so so so proud of my friend and that unbelievable company. Get ready for the Giulia ride!!! It’s unforgettable. Congratulations my beloved friend- I am in awe of you,” Sara wrote.
Jennifer thanked Sara for coming to the show.
