
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is taking a brief pause before the semifinal round begins.
After nearly a month of action, the tournament is down to just four teams: France, Spain, England and Argentina remain in the competition after advancing through the quarterfinals, while 44 of the original 48 nations have now been eliminated.
Although World Cup matches have been played almost every day since the tournament kicked off in June, there are no games scheduled today (Sunday, July 12) or tomorrow (Monday, July 13).
Why isn’t there a World Cup match today?
The break is built into FIFA’s schedule to give the four remaining teams time to rest, recover and prepare for the semifinals after weeks of travel, training and intense matches.
