LeBron James is speaking out for the first time following his big career announcement.
On Tuesday (June 30), the 41-year-old NBA player’s agent Rich Paul confirmed that LeBron would be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers after playing with the team for eight years.
After the news was officially announced, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss took to X to share a message about LeBron‘s memorable time with the team.
“LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history,” Buss said in a statement. “We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers—including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances and the countless records he broke in purple and gold.”

“We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off,” Buss added. “He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family.”
After Buss shared her message, LeBron responded, writing, “No, THANK YOU! Truly a honor to wear the [purple and yellow heart emojis] while trying to continuing the greatness & legacies that came before me! Hope I made a few proud during my stint.”
Following his exit from the Lakers, LeBron is now a free agent, and it has already been reported that this team will be pursuing him.
