David Bromstad is not walking away from My Lottery Dream Home, but fans may have seen the last of him taking on a major design project in front of the cameras.
The HGTV favorite opened up about his future in design shows after pouring years of work into his own home for the December 2025 special My Lottery Dream Home: David’s Happy Ending.
In a new interview with Barron Designs, David said the special was “probably the first and last time I’ll be designing in front of America.”
Why the project meant so much to him
David explained that designing his own home came with a lot of pressure, partly because it had been years since viewers had watched him do that kind of creative work on TV.
“It’s been so long since I’ve done any sort of design in front of America, right?” he said. “And I’m an artist, you know? I love my job with Lottery but I am a creative through and through. So it was really nice to be able to flex my muscles a little bit.”
He also admitted that, at first, he felt he had “something to prove” with the project.
The renovation became much more complicated after a storm damaged his Florida home, forcing him to rebuild and rethink the whole vision. David later took time away to focus on his substance use and mental health before returning to the house.

After that break, David said his mindset shifted.
He said after “working on my mental health, I was like, ‘I have nothing to prove to anybody but myself,’” he shared. “So, my design is a sneak peek into me as a human. Like, I’m unique. I’m different. I’m relatable, but also, like, completely strange, in the most weird and wonderful way, you know? And that’s my house!”
David has said he is thrilled with how the home turned out and does not picture himself moving or taking on another major redesign anytime soon.
