‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Sequel Officially In The Works with Sony & Netflix | KPop Demon Hunters, Movies, Netflix | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

A sequel to the Netflix phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters is officially in the works!

THR is reporting that Sony Pictures and Netflix are in talks to make a sequel to the smash hit movie, which just broke the record to become the streaming service’s most popular original movie of all time.

If you didn’t know, Sony Pictures originally developed the movie for a theatrical release, but decided to sell the film to Netflix instead. Netflix paid Sony the $100 million it spent to make the movie, place a fee of $25 million.

While some may say that Sony Pictures made a bad deal by selling the movie, the studio still made a 25% profit on the film and it may not have been as big of a hit if it was released exclusively in theaters.

“As word of mouth spread and social media caught on, we saw viewing really take off and the movie became a cultural phenomenon — it’s one of the only films to grow its audiences in its fifth and six weeks of release,” Netflix head of film Dan Lin told THR.

Sources say that kids are watching the movie six to eight times on average, and sometimes more than that.
