The mayor of Pittsburgh is speaking out after Morgan Wallen recently canceled his concert in the Pennsylvania city.
Hours before he was scheduled to hit the stage, the 33-year-old country music singer announced that he was canceling his Saturday (June 6) concert in Pittsburgh, citing forecasted scattered thunderstorms in the area.
“After talking with local officials and my team, there is no choice but to cancel tonight’s show due to severe adverse weather conditions expected throughout the rest of the day and night,” Morgan wrote in a statement on social media. “Safety for my fans and crew is the highest priority. Refunds available at point of purchase.”
However, Pittsburgh mayor Corey O’Connor has now claimed that Morgan had “no contact” with city officials prior to canceling his concert.
“There was no contact to Public Safety or my administration, so however the artist and his team picked to not have the show, that was on them,” O’Connor said KDKA Radio, according to Audacy. “If you’re going to say that you consulted … that’s one story. We, again, had no record of that, from public safety director all the way down.”
O’Connor further claimed that he heard that the venue, Acrisure Stadium, was not notified of the last-minute cancellation in advance.
After initially canceling the Pittsburgh show, Morgan doubled down on claims that local officials advised his team to cancel the show.
