Halle Berry is opening up about the lasting impact of being cheated on and why she believes women should talk openly about those experiences.
The Oscar-winning actress visited Today with Jenna & Sheinelle on Thursday (May 28), where she reacted to Gayle King‘s recent bombshell that she discovered her ex-husband, William Bumpus, was unfaithful during their marriage.

“It’s taking your power back, and I think we should talk about it. Absolutely. And I’m proud of her for saying that and sharing this that happened,” Halle said before gesturing to herself and adding, “Because it has happened to many of us.”
Gayle recently discussed the painful experience during an appearance on Alex Cooper‘s Call Her Daddy podcast, revealing that she caught William cheating on her with a friend in 1990.
Recalling the moment, Gayle said she confronted the woman and told her, “I can’t believe that you are here and that you are doing this.”
“I even said, ‘I thought we were friends!’ It sounded so pitiful,” the CBS Mornings co-host added.
Halle reflected on being cheated on during her marriage to Eric Benét
Halle reflected on her own experience with infidelity during her marriage to singer Eric Benét, whom she married in 2001 before the couple divorced in 2005.
“You remember every detail of the whole situation, and it stays with you forever. So when you can share it, somehow that’s therapeutic. It’s a catharsis when you can really share it, and someone else can say what their experience has been. So I appreciate her.”
The Monster’s Ball star explained that navigating the situation was especially difficult because it played out publicly.
“I didn’t talk about it necessarily very publicly, but I did talk about it,” she continued. “I did not carry the shame. I talked about it with my friends, I talked about it with other women.”
“There were children involved, I didn’t go on a public rampage about things, but I did talk about it, and it was very, very helpful. I needed that.”
