JoJo appears to have been blindsided by the news that Broadway’s Chess is going to close in June, just two days before she was scheduled to join the cast.

The 35-year-old “Too Little, Too Late” singer was previously announced as the next Florence Vassy in the acclaimed musical, replacing Lea Michele after her final performance on June 21.

JoJo‘s casting was announced back in March and she was hyping up her Broadway return just one day ago on Instagram. On Monday (May 25), she shared footage from playing the Forever Mine Festival in Chicago, which she said was her “last show before I go into Chess. Very different worlds that I’m so lucky I get to inhabit.”

Now, after the news of her planned Broadway return being canceled, JoJo is speaking out.

The @BroadwayWorks account on Instagram commented on the official Chess page and expressed hope for JoJo getting to perform some shows in the musical’s final weeks on Broadway.

“I’m manifesting that JoJo joins as the alternate for these last few weeks or something. She deserves some shows!!” the account wrote.

JoJo responded and revealed that she was scheduled to begin rehearsals just hours before the announcement. It’s unclear when she was told the news.

“Was suppose to start first day of rehearsals TODAY. So bummed. All my love to the company,” she said.
