
Rapper Rob Base has tragically died at the age of 59.
Just one day after celebrating his 59th birthday, the “It Takes Two” rapper passed away after a “private battle with cancer.”
The news was announced on his Instagram.
Today, we share the heartbreaking news that hip hop legend Rob Base passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, surrounded by family after a private battle with cancer.
The statement went on to express gratitude to Rob for his impact on the world and for being such a “loving father” and person “beyond the stage.”
Rob’s music, energy, and legacy helped shape a generation and brought joy to millions around the world. Beyond the stage, he was a loving father, family man, friend, and creative force whose impact will never be forgotten.

The artist, whose real name is Robert Ginyard, is best known for being in the hip-hop duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, specifically their 1988 single “It Takes Two,” which has been certified platinum by the RIAA.
DJ E-Z Rock, real name Rodney “Skip” Bryce, sadly passed away in 2014.
Rob still performed on stage over the years and participated in the I Love the ’90s Tour with Vanilla Ice, Young MC, and more.
