“We need to stop having all elections of any kind. And we need to choose all of our politicians and leaders through a completely randomized lottery system,” Riz shared in the video.
Kareem Rahma, host of the Subway Takes series, said that he “100%” disagrees with Riz‘s idea. He said, “That’s one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard in my life. I’m genuinely shocked that you’re saying that.”
Riz defended his idea by pointing out that voter turnout has a pretty low average each election cycle anyway. Riz said, “Well, first of all, no one really votes that much anymore. I mean, turnout is pretty low.”
Although Kareem continued to disagree and shared his concerns for who would randomly be chosen for election, Riz compared the idea to the jury duty system. Riz pointed out that “nobody” wants jury duty but the random selection process works there because the people selected are all forced to work together and come to agreement.
“It can’t really get worse,” Riz says of his idea, citing the current political landscape.
