Viggo Mortensen will not be reprising his role as Aragorn in the upcoming The Lord of the Rings prequel movie, The Hunt for Gollum.
Andy Serkis will be return to deliver another motion-capture performance as Gollum in the movie, which he will also direct.
The Hunt for Gollum follows the period of time in between The Hobbit and LOTR movies, “when Aragorn and Gandalf set out on a quest to find Gollum to acquire more information about Bilbo’s mysterious ring,” according to THR.
Ian McKellen says that he will return as Gandalf and Elijah Wood has hinted he’ll be back as Frodo, but it has been confirmed that Viggo will not be back.

Andy told Screen Rant, “I don’t know what’s out there at the moment, but I know there’s a lot of speculation, but let’s just say we are recasting the role and we are on the way to finding someone.”
Kate Winslet has been cast in a mystery role.
“We’ve got to keep it all back. I mean, look, other than, I think it’s probably common knowledge, but our film takes place between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and it’s The Hunt for Gollum, and it is a physical hunt for the character, but also a psychological hunt for himself. So we’re just about on the launchpad now, and it’s very exciting. And yeah, it’s going to be a big ride,” Andy added.
Another LOTR movie is in the works with a very famous talk show host as the writer!
