Shawn Hatosy is addressing the possibility of expanding The Pitt universe!

The 50-year-old actor, who won an Emmy Award in 2025 for his portrayal of night shift attending physician Dr. Jack Abbot, shared his thoughts on the hit HBO medical drama doing a spinoff series focused on the night shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

Keep reading to find out more…“There’s been a lot of talk about the night shift,” Shawn shared with People. “That would be really cool. We could do some cool, interesting things with the tone of the show.”

He went on to note that focusing on the night shift would allow the show to highlight different types of cases and characters.

“Dr. Abbot chose the night shift because it’s a certain kind of group of misfits that work together at night,” he added, but acknowledged that “everything is great” with the way the show runs now.

The Pitt follows the 15-hour day shift at the ED, led by Noah Wyle‘s Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. The night shift staff makes appearances at the beginning and end of each season as the doctors wrap up their rotations.

There may be more of a focus on the night shift doctors in season three after it was just recently announced that Ayesha Harris, who plays senior night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to series regular for the next season.

It was also announced that one actress is exiting the show after season two.

New episodes of The Pitt are released at 9pm ET on HBO and are available for streaming on HBO Max.
