During an interview on the red carpet at the Oscars on Sunday (March 15), Odessa reflected on her “really embarrassing” effort to play the iconic mermaid.

“I was so nervous that I forgot the lyrics to ‘Part of Your World’ while I was singing it,” she admitted to Variety.

“I was doing it in Ariel’s voice, like a princess voice, and then they’re like, ‘Just do it normal,’ [and] I couldn’t do it normal. I’d memorized it in that voice. I left like, that was the most embarrassing thing on planet Earth, and [I] didn’t hear back, didn’t get a call back.”

Odessa has since gone on to star in the hit HBO comedy I Love LA as rising influencer Tallulah Stiel, followed by a critically acclaimed role in Marty Supreme as Rachel Mizler.

Earlier this year, she was cast in A24′s upcoming movie adaption of Holly Brickley‘s novel Deep Cuts. However, many took issue with Odessa‘s casting as the character of Zoe, who is of Mexican heritage and is Jewish, as the actress is white. Find out what ultimately happened.
