“I don’t even know if this is true, this is probably all rumored and hearsay, but there’s the P***y Posse,” Brian said on the episode, referring to the rumored name of Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire‘s friend group at the time.
According to rumors in the 90s, Leonardo, Tobey, and some of their other friends would go out to nightclubs to meet women and pull pranks together. Despite the long-running rumors, none of the actors involved have ever used the nickname to refer to their friend group or confirmed that the rumors were true.
Brian went on to say that his character, an on-screen celebrity who Kristin‘s character almost hooks up with during the series, was allegedly inspired by their rumored exploits.
“So that character Wylie Ford was loosely based on the P***y Posse shenanigans,” Brian said, saying the character let him “channel [his] inner douche bag.”
Brian said the bad behavior was fun for him, saying, “I just kind of embraced it and it was not only fulfilling creatively, but it was also very therapeutic.”
