Greg Biffle, a former NASCAR driver, and his wife, Cristina Grossu Biffle, along with their two children, Emma, 14, and son Ryder, 5, are among the victims of a plane crash that took place in North Carolina this morning (December 18).
In addition, two other passengers aboard the aircraft were killed in the tragic accident.
Rep. Richard Hudson confirmed the news, writing, “I am devastated by the loss of Greg, Cristina, and their children, and my heart is with all who loved them. They were friends who lived their lives focused on helping others. Greg was a great NASCAR champion who thrilled millions of fans. But he was an extraordinary person as well, and will be remembered for his service to others as much as for his fearlessness on the track.”
He continued, “The last time I spoke with Cristina, just a couple of weeks ago, she reached out to ask how she could help with relief efforts in Jamaica. That’s who the Biffles were.”
The cause of the crash will be investigated. It happened as the plane was trying to land at Statesville Regional Airport. It took off from the airport at 10 am local time, and then tried to land a short time later, the AP reports.
Our thoughts are with the friends, family, and loved ones of all the victims. RIP.
