With everyone talking about HBO Max’s steamy new romance series Heated Rivalry, a lot of people are asking about the sexuality of the lead actors, Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams.
Over the years, there has been a lot of discourse in the media about whether gay roles should be played by straight actors. In recent years, it’s more common for gay characters to be played by actors who identify as LGBTQ+ in real life.
So, are Connor and Hudson gay or straight? The creator of Heated Rivalry is commenting on why that’s not important.

In a group interview with Xtra, Connor, Hudson and series creator Jacob Tierney were asked about this topic.
“I’ll answer this for them,” Jacob interjected.
He continued, “I don’t think there’s any reason to get into that stuff. I’ll tell you something about the casting of both of these roles. You can’t ask questions like that when you’re casting, right? It’s actually against the law.”
“So what you have to gauge is somebody’s enthusiasm and willingness to do the work. And that’s what’s so impressive about both of these guys is they came into this being like, ‘Yeah, we’re here to do this, and we are here to make this story feel authentic and to be as real as possible.’ And they f–king hit it out of the park,” Jacob added.
Jacob also talked about their chemistry in the audition.
“They read together and we were all like, ‘Oh my god, this is f–king done. Flush the rest of it down the toilet.’ Their chemistry was just insane. It was always going to be about chemistry. We loved both of them separately and then seeing them together, it was just like perfection. We couldn’t ask for more,” he said.
