Jay Leno is sharing an update on how wife Mavis is doing amid her battle with dementia.
Back in January 2024, the 75-year-old comedian and former late-night host was granted a conservatorship over his wife’s estate after she was diagnosed with “advanced dementia.”
Nearly two years later, Jay shared an update on how he and Mavis are both doing.
Keep reading to find out more…“It’s not work, because people come up, and say they feel so sorry,” Jay told People in an interview published on November 9. “I understand the sympathy, because I know a lot of people are going through it, but it’s OK.”
Despite Mavis‘ diagnosis, Jay said that he’s tried keeping an optimistic outlook on their circumstances.
“My wife is fighting dementia and all that, but it’s not cancer,” Jay noted. “I enjoy her company, and we have a good time. We have fun with it, and it is what it is.”
While he might know what the future has in store for them, Jay said that he’s grateful that he can emotionally and financially take care of Mavis, who he has been married to since 1980.
“There are going to be a couple of years that are tricky,” he admitted. “But it’s okay. It’s not terrible. I’m not a woe-is-me person. I’m just lucky that I am able to take care of her.”
