Dr. Phil Defends Sydney Sweeney Amid ‘Great Jeans’ Ad Backlash, Slams ‘Ridiculous’ Outrage | Dr. Phil, Sydney Sweeney | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Dr. Phil is speaking out in support of Sydney Sweeney following controversy over her viral American Eagle “Great Jeans” campaign.

The 73-year-old talk show host appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday (August 8), where he criticized the outrage surrounding the ad, and some of the extreme comparisons being made.

“For people to go crazy over that ad and to, to say that they say she’s got good genes, and for them to say that’s the equivalent of the Holocaust, that this is the same as all of that, is an absolute insult,” Dr. Phil said.

“Six million people were killed, six million. Jews were massacred and murdered, and they equate that to a blue jeans ad for a Hollywood actress? What an insult.”

Dr. Phil went on to say he plans to “buy those jeans for every woman” in his family to “show support” for Sydney.

Earlier in the segment, host Bill Maher also defended Sydney after recent reports about her political views.

Sydney Sweeney came out as, not came out, she was exposed as a Republican… and they reported this like it was a scandal. She’s a Republican,” Bill said. “I just got to say this is not where I want America to go. It is not a slur that someone is a Republican.”

Dr. Phil responded, “If you ask whether someone is a Republican in Hollywood, it’s a slur. But if you ask the same question in the Midwest, it’s not a slur.” He added that being called a Republican or Democrat should never be considered offensive.

Sydney’s American Eagle ad has faced criticism in recent weeks, with detractors accusing it of promoting White supremacy. Find out how her brother just reacted!
